NAOMI co-organizes Wausau's annual celebration of Dr. King's life and legacy with The Women's Community, MOSAIC, and the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes. The free family evening at Marathon Park East Gate Hall brings together speakers, music, dance, and poetry. The 2026 celebration was held January 16, and NAOMI has been a sponsor year after year.
Every other spring, WISDOM brings more than a thousand people of faith from across Wisconsin to the State Capitol for a day of rally, learning, and meetings with legislators. NAOMI charters a bus from Wausau with stops in Kronenwetter and Plover. Cost assistance is available; never let the price keep you home.
Our summer picnic at Marathon Park brings members and neighbors together for free food, door prizes, and entertainment, a look back at the year, and Certificates of Appreciation for organizations serving our community. The 16th annual picnic on August 24, 2026 honored ECDC, the Wausau Free Clinic, and The Alliance for Safe and Prosperous Communities, and featured Safe Passage and The Alliance sharing ways to help immigrant and refugee neighbors. In 2025, the picnic recognized H2N (Hmong and Hispanic Communication Network), Peyton's Promise, and New Beginnings for Refugees.
For five years, NAOMI members have joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, a member congregation, for its Trunk or Treat during Halloween week, decorating cars and handing out treats to neighborhood children. It is a simple, joyful way to be visible alongside a congregation that has generously shared its space with NAOMI over the years.
NAOMI calls people of faith together for community prayer vigils and information meetings, most recently in support of immigrant and refugee neighbors through Safe Passage and The Alliance for Safe and Prosperous Communities. Watch this page and our Facebook page for upcoming gatherings.
